Common Questions for Prospective Athletes and Parents
What age group is my son/daughter in?
Use the your son/daughter’s birthday and the chart below to figure out what age division they fall under. *Any 15-year-old male who is in 8th grade will get a waiver to play 14s and will skip 15U in HS and play 16U his 9th-grade year.
When are tryouts?
Dates and times will vary each year based on SVCA. Tryout dates are typically announced in the middle of March.
Girls 11U-14U: End of September Girls 15U-18U: End of July Boys 11U-18U: End of August
How can my athlete prepare for tryouts?
Athletes can prepare for club tryouts by doing private lessons, or attending summer camps and pre-tryout clinics. Summer camps run in June and July. Pre-tryout clinics will run leading up to each tryout.
What are the costs for playing volleyball at 949?
We are priced competitively with the elite volleyball clubs in the Southern California region. Costs vary between age group and club vs club lite. Each fee is broken up into four payments over the club season or can be paid upfront.
What is the difference between "club" and "club lite"?
Club teams practice 3 days a week and enter all tournaments offered by the southern California region, as well as an end of the season tournament. Club lite practices twice a week and enters organized scrimmages hosted by 949. Club lite is a great way to transition from clinics to a team setting. Club Lite is for 12U girls and below.

When are the practices?
Practices days and times are dependent upon coaches availability and gym schedule. All practices are posted on the calendar and kept updated and current daily.
Do you offer beginner clinics?
Yes, our beginner clinics start in late January and run through May. There is a $40 drop-in fee.

My child plays another sport, can she still play club volleyball?
Here at 949 we encourage athletes to continue to participate in other sports. We are firm believers that being a multi-sport athlete creates better all-around athletes. We ask our athletes to have open communication with their coaches if there are any conflicts with practices.
How long is the club volleyball season?
The high school girls club season will begin in November, after their high school seasons conclude, and run until the end of June.
The junior high girls club season will begin in October and run through June.
The boys club season will run from the beginning of September to the beginning of July. The high school boys’ club practices will pause from February to May for their high school volleyball season.
